Malaya & British Borneo Banknote 1953 Series

The Malaya and British Borneo dollar was used as currency in Malaya, Singapore, British North Borneo, Sarawak and Brunei from 1953 to 1967. The Federation of Malaya continued to use this currency even after independence on August 31, 1957 and the formation of Malaysia in 1963. This currency continued to be legal tender until January 16, 1969. The Board of Commissioners of Currency Malaya and British Borneo was wound up on November 30, 1979.



Malaya & British Borneo $1
The Malaya & British Borneo $1 was printed by Waterlow & Sons Ltd on 21st March 1953. THE FRONT features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the tiger head watermark Incorporated as a safeguard against forgery. This note was signed by W.C. Taylor. THE BACK features the emblems of the then 15 states i.e. Pahang, Perak, Malacca, Brunei, Kedah, Sarawak, Kelantan, Sinagapore, Perlis, Perlis, Sabah, Johore, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan (left to right). The emblem of the Malaya Federation was shown at the bottom.



Malay & British Broneo $5
