Hi, do you have any websites that show price guide for old banknotes(Malaysia). Or do you have a personal price guide that can share with everyone.

Purchasing a guide book is quite expensive.

Thanks.

Jack Hoo said...

No, I don't. But if you need any price guide info for a particular banknote, I will try to feedback to you.

NELSON, KN Boon 4th edition guide book on sale for SGD30 in Singapore, a good investment indeed. It will give u a good guide what the market price of some of the banknotes. ( must discount at least 30% of the cataloque price).

Jack, Why are the prices quoted so much higher than the market ?

Jack Hoo said...

Perhaps it has involved some commercial interest. I do agree with your comment though, the prices quoted are high.

Dave said...

But i think it depends. Some commerative coins is undervalue. For example the 50th Malaysia Merdeka and St. John 100 years anniversary coins, i think the market price now is much more higher than the value stated in KN Boon. The mintage is so less, so i think both that coins is have very high potential as an investment.

Anyone knows the value of a RM50 replacement note bearing X/1 Series signed by Tun Ismail Ali

Jack Hoo said...

Hi Geeching, the replacement note signed by Tun Ismail Ali comes with prefix Z/1. The replacement note with prefix X/1 mentioned was with Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Taha signature. The UNC piece of later worth around RM2000 or above.

Dear Jack

Thanks for your response to my earlier query Unfortunately i forgot where I posted my query and after several months only i found the blog. It was already too late as I had departed(2months ago) 10pcs of Z/1 RM100Notes for about 8000 and 10pcs of RM50Notes of Z/1 Signed by Tun Ismail Ali and X/1 Signed by Tan Sri Aziz Taha for about 6000 ALL notes in uncirculated condition.

I had still with me a couple of Z/1 Sa-Puloh UNC notes signed by Tun Ismail Ali and a couple of non replacement notes with the spelling PULUH. (RM10 & RM50) Do you know the market value of such notes please.

Thcank you

Jack Hoo said...

Z/1 Sa-Puloh UNC note is one of the highest value replacement notes. Standard catalogue states the price at RM8000.

Depending type of RM10 and RM50 of 'Puluh' notes, they are ranging from hundred to few hundred ringgit. You may want to be specific.

geeching said...

Dear Jack,
Thank you for the info.

I have still with me 1pc RM50(Puloh) and 2pcs RM10(PulOh).The RM50 is not a replacement note.

Apart from these I have 2pcs of RM50
5pcs of RM10, 10pcs of RM5 and 20pcs of RM1 issued under the first series.(BNM logo on the reverse side)

I had almost the same number of notes issued under series two A and series two B.

As for the third series I had only RM2, RM10 and RM50.
I hope that the above would be clear for you to give an approximate valuation.

Thank you.

Jack Hoo said...

Hi Geeching, first of all sorry to say that I am not an expert in banknote valuation.

I hope to provide you some info on the market price but the value of the banknote is very much depending on its demand or collector's need.

RM50 Puloh UNC RM1500
RM10 Puloh UNC RM300

Other 1st Series of notes with new spelling but different printers and signature.
RM50 UNC RM1000 to RM1300
RM10 UNC RM150 to RM200
RM5 UNC RM100 to RM130
RM1 UNC RM30 to RM50

The value of 3rd Series very much depend on its signature.

Are you going to dispose your banknotes?

geeching said...

Dear JACK,

Yes i intend to dispose them but not able to find someone dependable.
At least you have given me an honest valuation.
In fact i had a few RM1 of the first series with prefix D11, D23, E23 and E90 signed by Ismail Ali and some under the second series with prefix AP signed by Aziz Taha.

I notice that you do not have any valuations on Coins:-

I have with me the following coins:

Proof set:

3rd Malaysia Plan (1976)
EPF 25th Ann
9th SEA Games (1977)
Merdeka 30th Ann (1987)
World Wild Life
15th SEA games (1989)

1st issue of RM100 Gold Coin with the first PM . (1971)

It is unlikely that i will dispose of the coins but if you happen to know the approximate value please let me know as I may dispose them if the price is right.

Dear Jack

Thank you for sharing the info.

Maybe i did not make it clear that a set of coins usually comes with gold piece. As what i have is a complete set including the gold as well i will appreciate if you can give me the price on per set basis i.e. a three piece set of coins.

I have taken note on your interest in the notes and as i am now undergoing medical treatment overseas i will let you have a first preference it buying my notes
as soon as i return.

Jack Hoo said...

Hi Geeching, I will try to gather some info on the coins for you. It will be great if given a chance to view through your collection.
