RM1 'ZE' Replacement Note

RM1 'ZE' Replacement Note

The replacement note in any of the 3rd Series of Malaysian Banknote always carry a prefix of 'Z'. In short, a replacement note is a reprinted banknote that replaces those mistake notes in the printing process. These notes are highly searched by collector due to its limited issuance. This is another ZE series of RM1 replacement banknote. Many times, I receive these replacement during my daily grocery transaction.

"a replacement note is a reprinted banknote" appears to be a misleading statement. A better choice of words would probably be "a replacement note is a specially printed note with a designated prefix". At the moment, all the RM1 banknotes with a preceding Z prefix are replacement notes but may not be 100% true afterall. Rumours have it that from ZF onwards until ZV, these are ordinary issues with ZW to ZZ being replacement notes. Only time will tell so let's wait and see, at least for another month or so till Hari Raya Puasa.

I have seen ZW being sold on ebay for the Rm1, is that another replacement? If it is how come its not ZF ?

The RM1 note is already at its tip to run out of ordinary prefix. It won't be surprise to see the Prefix Z is being used as ordinary notes. Perhaps the next step that BNM will do is to introduce new serial number i.e. three alphabet prefix AAA or 1AA, if not there shall be a new series of notes.

RM 1 with Prefix AAA has been released by BNM. It is the first ever three alphabets prefix introduced by BNM. Many collectors are targetting for it. I am not surprise these prefix AAA notes being sold at higher price. There are also other prefix such as AAB to AAP has been released to market.
